The U.S. Department of Energy, the National Association of Home Builders Research Center,
and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have recognized Tom Fullam's " Near Zero Maine"
with the nation's preeminent energy efficiency award, the " 2011 Energy Value Housing Award."
The "Near Zero Maine" living research home took the "Silver" nationally in the "Cold Climate,
Custom Home" catagory. With an emphasis on reduced construction costs, less maintenance,
and increased efficiency, this modest home is third party rated to use 62% less energy than
a comparable new home built to code.
This is a modest home that was built for under $200,000, including land, sitework, well, septic and the home. There was a fair amount of sweat equity involved.
